My Story: From a Deaf Teen with a Camera to Building a Creative Legacy

Every creator has a beginning.

Mine started with a camera, a dream, and the determination to tell my own story.

More than 12 years ago, as a teenager, I uploaded my first videos to YouTube. At the time, there were very few Deaf creators consistently sharing their lives online. I wasn't thinking about becoming an entrepreneur or building a personal brand. I simply wanted to create videos, document my life, meet new people, and be part of something bigger than myself.

Looking back, that decision changed my life forever.

Growing Up Deaf

Growing up Deaf taught me that communication is much more than words. American Sign Language became my voice, my culture, and my identity. I wanted people to see the world through a Deaf perspective—not as something to overcome, but as something to celebrate.

YouTube gave me that opportunity.

Through my videos, I could share everyday moments, adventures, creativity, filmmaking, photography, and conversations with the Deaf community. Every upload became another chapter of my life.

As social media continued to grow, I realized something important: creating videos wasn't only about views. It was about building relationships.

I met incredible Deaf creators from around the world. We encouraged one another, collaborated, and inspired each other to keep creating. Those friendships became one of the greatest gifts YouTube has ever given me.

Building Communities

As more Deaf creators joined YouTube, I wanted to create places where we could connect and support one another.

Over the years, I founded several Deaf creator communities, including:

  • 2013 – Deaf2ndLife

  • 2014 – Our1stDeafLife

  • 2016 – Deaf YouTubers

These groups were created to bring Deaf creators together. We shared videos, exchanged ideas, collaborated on projects, and celebrated each other's creativity. Long before creator communities became common across social media, I believed that Deaf creators deserved a place where they could grow together.

Watching new creators publish their first videos and gain confidence reminded me why I started creating in the first place.

Community has always mattered more to me than numbers.

From Creator to Entrepreneur

As my passion grew, so did my vision.

I wanted to do more than upload videos.

I wanted to build something that could create opportunities for Deaf creatives.

That vision became LuVisideMedia, later rebranded as LuVisiMedia.

My goal was simple: combine creativity, storytelling, branding, filmmaking, and digital media while working alongside Deaf talent whenever possible.

Every project taught me something new.

Every success brought new confidence.

Every failure became another lesson.

Entrepreneurship isn't about never making mistakes.

It's about learning, adapting, and continuing forward.

The Hardest Chapter

Life doesn't always move in a straight line.

In 2021, I was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Receiving that diagnosis changed everything.

There were moments filled with uncertainty, confusion, fear, and questions about my future. I wondered whether I would ever be able to create the way I once had.

Mental illness can make people feel isolated.

For someone who already experienced barriers as a Deaf person, it added another layer of challenges that few people understood.

But over time, I learned that asking for help is not weakness.

Recovery is not about pretending life is perfect.

Recovery is about continuing to move forward one day at a time.

Finding Purpose Again

Instead of hiding my story, I decided to share it.

I believe conversations about mental health save lives.

Too many people suffer in silence because they fear judgment.

If my journey encourages even one person to seek help, keep creating, or believe in themselves again, then sharing my story is worth it.

Today, mental health advocacy has become an important part of my mission.

Not because I have all the answers.

But because I know what it feels like to struggle.

The Meaning Behind My Logo

My personal logo tells a story.

The sun and moon represent balance.

They symbolize light and darkness, hope and struggle, creativity and healing.

Life is made of both bright days and difficult nights.

The logo reminds me that darkness never lasts forever.

After every night comes another sunrise.

That message reflects both my creative journey and my mental health journey.

Why I Still Create

People often ask why I continue making videos after so many years.

The answer is simple.

Because I still love creating.

I love picking up a camera.

I love documenting life.

I love meeting people.

I love telling stories.

I love inspiring others to believe that their voice matters.

Success isn't measured only by subscribers or views.

Success is waking up excited to create again.

Looking Ahead

My journey is still being written.

I continue building YouTube channels, podcasts, creative brands, and businesses.

I continue learning.

I continue growing.

I continue making mistakes.

And I continue creating.

My dream is to leave behind more than videos.

I want to leave behind a legacy that encourages Deaf creators, entrepreneurs, artists, filmmakers, and people living with mental health challenges to believe in themselves.

If one person watches my story and decides to start their own channel, launch their own business, share their own experience, or refuse to give up, then every challenge I've faced has had a purpose.

This isn't the end of my story.

It's only the beginning of the next chapter.
